Commemoration of The legend: Ram Navami
This year 28th March marks the birthday of the Maryada Purushottam Ram, the biggest of Hindu festivals.
When Adharma began outweighing Dharma Lord Rama was born. He slayed the evil powers to establish peace and tranquillity on this Bhuloka.
He was born to the king of Ayodhya, Dasharatha and Kausalya. This day falls on the 9th day of the Shukla Paksha of the month of Chaitra (March-April). So it is also known as Chaita Masa Shukla Paksha and ends the nine day long celebration of Chaitra-Navratri.
Lord Rama is supposed to be the oldest known god having human form. He is the seventh incarnation of the Lord Vishnu. According to the legend, when the five planets and the sun were in the first house of cancer at noon along with the lunar aster ism Pushya, Lord Rama was born. According to the vedic mythology it is supposed to be an extremely auspicious moment!
In south India this is celebrated as the auspicious wedding day of Lord Rama and Sita known as
Sitarama kalyanam. Priests carry out the wedding ceremony in the temples named Kalyanotsavam.
At some places, throughout the nine days Akhand Path is carried out along with bhajans and kirtans. During these days people listen to the glorious life story of Lord Rama in order to cleanse their souls and ease their pain.
Lord
Rama was the embodiment of ideals and stands as an insignia of a
perfect man! We must inculcate his principles into us and lead a pride
intact life of noble thoughts and virtues.
